A Ship In The
Harbor Is Safe,
But That’s Not What Ships Are Built For... The Jokara-Micheaux Film Festival is the effort
and inspiration of Ralph Wilcox, the Director of the Southwest
Georgia Film Commission Office. Its mission is to attract
entertainment that gives spectators insights into their society
and provides lessons that will impact viewers regardless of age,
gender, ethnicities, philosophy, or religious persuasion. It is
an opportunity to facilitate filmmakers, i.e., directors,
producers, writers, investors, and business people to network,
discover, and stimulate the growth of the film and television
industry and the growing industry businesses in Southwest
Georgia.

| In 2006, Ralph Wilcox launched the first festival with
the help of Joy Jinks, founder of Swamp Gravy and Veryl Garland-Cockey,
President of the Colquitt-Miller County Chamber of Commerce. Jokara-Micheaux
Film/ Television/ Music Production Studio and the Henny Penny
Video/Television Training Production Company hosted the first
Jokara-Micheaux Film/Video Festival in Colquitt, Georgia. Celebrities
from all over the world came to the event. It was a great success.
A formal dinner was hosted as part of the official ribbon-cutting for
the new Jokara-Micheaux Film/Television/Music Production Studio,
featuring a 22,000 sq. ft movie sound stage, production facility, and
offices of the Southwest Georgia Film Commission.
The event signaled a full blown effort to bring the film industry and
related businesses to the area. Kudos to my partner Barton Rice, Jr.,
CEO/ Executive Producer of Laughing Crow 1 Entertainment, LLC in
Blakely, Georgia. Welcome aboard to Mayor Mary Jo Haywood, Joe Sopanaro and the City of
Camilla, Georgia.
The Journey Continues…
“Celebrating Film Southern Style” is what the 3rd Annual
Jokara-Micheaux Film Festival is all about. This year, once again, a
multitude of film industry related people will descend on Southwest
Georgia to celebrate motion pictures and all that goes into the making
of good, wholesome entertainment.
Today Blakely, Colquitt, and Camilla are working together to bring
many film industry businesses to the area. The key to this success has
been a strong faith in the vision of its founder and a commitment in
community partnerships that this part of Georgia is positioned for
growth if the honest integrity of our committed efforts are unified. |
